for infants to feel things as they explore.

Beginning: Place the infant on the floor on her tummy. If she is mobile, place the pizza box just a short distance from her. Encourage her to move to the box to see and feel its contents. If the child is not mobile, place her on her tummy on a Boppy pillow so that her chest is resting across the pillow. This will free her arms to explore the box. Place the pizza box in front of the child. Middle: Encourage the infant to explore the contents of the box. End: This lesson ends when the child seems more interested in other things. |
Extensions and Modifications: This
lesson can be modified by limiting the amount of items glued in the box. It can be extended by adding a bigger variety
of textured items.
Possibilities: There are a lot of variations for this activity. The boards can be made of wood, cardboard, or other hard surfaces. It can be secured to a wall. Embroidery hoops can be used to secure fabrics. For older children, knobs, switches, latches, doorbells, and chains are possibilities.
