Idea: This is a great lesson for infants ages 6-9
months. They may be familiar with cookware
if their parents or caregivers allow them to participate in kitchen
activities.
Materials Needed: Small pot with a fitted lid that has a handle. A variety of items from the kitchen that have fitted lids. They should be small enough or have handles for children to easily grasp. Small toy. Dishpan with soapy water and rinse water. Dish rack.
Curriculum Content: KDI 26: One-to-One Correspondence, KDI 26: Locating Objects, KDI 30: Taking Apart and Putting Together, KDI 2: Problem Solving, KDI 23 Object Permanence.
Beginning: Talk to the children about what you like to cook for dinner. Talk about their parent making dinner or other foods in their house. Talk about what the food is put in to cook. Show them a pot with a lid and how they go together.
Middle: Encourage children to match the correct lid with the pan. Try putting a small toy on, in, or behind the pans. Encourage the children to find it.
End: Wash the pots and pans with the children. Set them in the dish rack to dry.
