Ziploc Bag Painting
Originating
Idea:
Some infants do not enjoy tummy time. This
activity encourages young infants to move their bodies. They stretch their core
muscles while using the small muscles in their fingers. It allows them to experience the use of paint
without the mess. It gives even the
littlest artist the ability to create one of their very first masterpieces!
Materials Needed: Gallon sized plastic bag. Heavy white construction paper cut to fit inside the bag. Three primary colors tempra paint. Wide masking tape. Boppy pillow. Curriculum Content: KDI: 12: Moving Parts of the Body. KDI 13 Moving the Whole Body, KDI 37: Exploring Art Materials. |

Preparation:
Put
a few dabs of paint on the construction paper.
Carefully put it in the plastic bag.
Seal it securely. Place the bag
on a hard floor surface in front of where the infant will be laying. Tape the bag to the floor. Tape all four sides of the plastic bag.
Beginning: Place the infant on the floor with his chest across the boppy pillow. His hands should be able to reach the bag with pain in it. He should be positioned so that he is able to touch most of the surface of the bag. This position allows him to have both hands free. Middle: Encourage the child to touch the paint bag with his fingers and/or hands. End: This activity should end when the infant starts to lose interest and starts looking away from the project. Gently pull the masking tape off the floor. Show the baby his artwork. Talk about the colors used and how it was mixed. Allow him to touch it, but do not lose your grasp of the bag. Remove the construction paper from the plastic bag. Hang it to dry. |
