Originating
Idea: As young children, we express our emotions to
meet our needs. For example, we cry when
we are hungry. Then someone feeds
us. Our needs are met. As we grow older, we learn that emotions have
names. This lesson addresses the idea
that we can verbalize how we are feeling.
Beginning:
Chant,
sing, “Hello, Hello, How are You Today?”
Tell children how you are feeling.
Say, “Today, I feel really happy!
Do you know what ‘happy’ looks like?”
Present the happy doll, point to and talk about the smile on the dolls
face. Do that with the other dolls. As you finish talking about each doll, pass
them out to the children with small doll blankets.
Middle: Encourage toddlers to wrap their baby doll in the doll blanket. Model.
End: Sing ‘Rock a Bye Baby’ with the toddlers, while rocking your baby. Say, “It is time to put our babies to bed. Put your baby in the doll bed. Encourage the toddlers to do the same.
